If you have concern for those less fortunate than yourself, joining Action Africa will give you a sense of purpose! We change lives one organization and one project at a time and we see the results of our collective, intentional philanthropy first hand.
Action Africa giving circle members know that they can make a much greater impact giving together - pooling resources - than they can make when they give alone. The beauty of giving circle philanthropy is that each giving circle member helps select which organizations/projects our resources support. That means as a member YOU have a say in what projects our giving circle funds. This kind of philanthropy is uniquely personal.
That's simple! There is great need on the African continent. Many individuals lack basic, life-comforting needs like safe dwellings, clean water, electricity, and more. In addition, since the cost of living is so low, our money goes far in Africa to help those in need.
Your level of involvement is entirely up to you. We meet every other month, virtually, and hope that you'll want to attend our meetings. Joining (or not joining) a committee is your choice. We do ask that you stay informed about the grants and cast your vote at the end of the grants presentation which takes place once per year. Your voice and your vote are important to us and we hope expressing your wishes is important to you, too.
Awareness about the issues facing vulnerable African women, children and families is critical to our mission and our work. Our unique MISSION MOMENT feature, presented at each meeting, raises our awareness and helps us connect with our compassion and our purpose. Past MISSION MOMENT topics have included child-led households (when the oldest sibling of an orphaned family takes over as head of the household) in South Africa, gender roles in Ghana, orphans in Uganda, literacy in Zambia, water insecurity in Zimbabwe, Covid-19 response in one community in South Africa, period poverty, obstectric fistulas...and so much more!
